Partial Hospitalization: A More Intensive Approach for Drug Treatment
Partial Hospitalization (PHP) should be considered for drug treatment patients who may require a more structured or intensive drug treament care. Partial hospitalization programs provide ancillary medical and psychiatric services, whereas intensive outpatient programs may be more variable in the accessibility of these services.
The partial hospitalization setting have been utilized as a continuum of care for clients/patients being discharged from drug detox units, hospitals or residential settings who remain at high risk for relapse. Some drug treatment patients may suffer co-morbidity and/or have a chronic history of relapse. The PHP environment provides the individualized intensive drug treatment to promote lifelong recovery.
